If you believe
ALL OF US should have access to HEALTHCARE COVERAGE . . .
and ALL OF US should have FOOD SECURITY . . .
then the Healthcare & Food Equity Task Force is for you!
We are dedicated to combating wrongs being inflicted on Wisconsinites, especially those in the Milwaukee County area, who are already economically disadvantaged and now face additional obstacles in securing healthcare coverage and adequate and nutritious food. Some of the problems are as follows:
-
New federal law imposing work/paperwork requirements as a condition to obtaining Medicaid (“BadgerCare Plus” in Wisconsin)
-
Similar new law for SNAP benefits (“FoodShare” in Wisconsin)
-
New federal law limiting the ability of non-citizens to obtain public healthcare coverage and SNAP benefits
-
Food apartheid in the City of Milwaukee, caused by the pullout of major grocery vendors
Our objective is to help people faced with these challenges. Our work can range from educating the community about the challenges to spreading the word about where help navigating through healthcare and SNAP mazes can be found to various types of advocacy. We seek to partner with other organizations in the community, whenever possible. We want to get beyond talking and into doing.
